First Post for 2012

It's hard to believe that 2011 is over already, this time last year we were getting ready to have our baby, now we are preparing for her birthday party.

We didn't do much for the holidays this year, we didn't really have the time since we are renovating the basement to make it into a suite. Miss P just started crawling so we didn't want her tearing down any of the decor. On new years eve I was asleep my 10:30pm.

Our renter moved out so I have more room to store all of our extra baby junk, Miss P's room actually looks like a baby's room now, not a disaster zone.

In between baby time, cleaning time, etc. I have made a few new things.

After P's birthday party this weekend we will start preparing for our trip to the Dominican Republic. We will be visiting Puerto Plata. Very exciting!

Connect your Facebook Page to Twitter

After posting the tutorial on how to post your tweets to facebook, I was doing some more reading on connecting Facebook to Twitter and found this article explaining how to post from your Facebook Page to Twitter by using the Facebook Twitter app.

Click on this link https://www.facebook.com/twitter/

If you are already logged in to Facebook, your page(s) willshow up. Click on the button that says “Link to Twitter” You will be brought to this page where youwill enter your username password.

Then click on “Authorize App”

You will be redirected and will see that your page is nowconnected to twitter.

Check or uncheck anything you don’t want sent to twitter,and click Save Changes.

When you are finished, try posting something from yourFacebook page and see if it has been tweeted... twittered??

Post your Tweets to Facebook

If you link your twitter to facebook, you only have to post once to twitter and the post will be sent to facebook. Reach both audiences and get two things done at once!

Here is how:

1. Log into your twitter account

2 .Click on the little person icon, found between the search and the compose new tweet icon

3. Your menu will pop up where you can select Settings

4. In your settings, click on the Profile tab

5. Scroll down the page, near the bottom you will see the "Post your Tweets to Facebook" button. Click on this.

6. If you are not already signed into facebook, a window will pop up like this. Click on the button to sign in

7. Another window pops up, sign into your account

8. After you sign in, the window refreshes and you should see this

9. The check box for "my Facebook profile" will be checked by default. You will have to uncheck that, then check off the "my Facebook page" and then choose your page from the drop down menu.

10. Guess what? Another window! You will have to allow permission for the two sites to connect to each other. Click on Allow.

11. When you are finished, click on Save

Now, whenever you post a tweet it will be sent to your Facebook page so you don't have to run around both sites trying to update everything individually.

To disconnect twitter from facebook, follow steps 1-4, you will see this. Click on Disconnect.

Click ok, and you are done.

Back Home

We arrived back home on Saturday from our whirlwind visit to the Lower Mainland. My hubby had a one day course there so we drove down and had a couple of quick visits with friends and family. P saw some of her great Aunties and Uncles, second and third cousins, big and little. She saw her Great Papa too. We had a lovely time and we are looking forward to the next visit.

Yesterday was Cyber Monday , I sold a few things....

While P was sleeping last night, I packaged everything up to ship off today.

I sold more in one day than I sold at my last two craft shows, and I didn’t have to leave my house. My hubby was nice enough to mail everything off on his way to work. <3

With my hard earned cash, I rewarded myself by cashing in on some Cyber Monday deals. I ordered myself these:

They are coming all the way from Poland, from a shop called Zoana. I want everything she makes, her prices and shipping rates are great too.

I still haven’t fully unpacked from our last trip and soon we will be heading to the lower mainland. I have a lot to do before we leave and I am hoping to squeeze in some outings before we go.Between looking after Miss P and house stuff I have been hanging out on the Busy Moms of Etsy team and working on the Busy Moms blog http://busymomsteam.blogspot.com/I have found so many great Moms out there, juggling jobs, kids and their handmade art businesses. When I have spare time I collect links of events in the Okanagan, Craft fairs, arts shows, farmers markets, art courses etc. There many things to do in the Okanagan but some of the events can be hard to find. I decided to make a facebook page to list the links I find of artsy things to do in the Okanagan. Oh, and I made a blog for it too. As if I didn’t have enough on my plate already, right? It is ok though, I am keeping it simple. I am using Google Calendar to post the events as I find out about them, http://artsyokanagan.wordpress.com/. You can click on the event day, read the details and import the event to your own calendar, or you can import the calendar. When I have time I would like to attend some of these events. We are back from our Halcyon Hot Spring retreat. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back!

Last night was fun. I spent more than I sold, but that is ok because I met some really nice people. Miss P behaved herself which was awesome. My wonderful Mother came along to help out. Thanks Mom!

Halloween Anniversary

We had a great Halloween Anniversary weekend. Our Halloween party turned out great, the kids had fun and ate alot of candy while playing "Boo-opoly". Penelope was scared of a Pirate hat but was ok with a Freddy Krueger mask.

We had a few trick or treaters for Halloween. Some kids were too afraid to come to our door. We made it worth their while with full sized chocolate bars. Penny's costume wasn't cooperating with me, so the mermaid thing didn't work out. I was prepared and had back up costumes so I was a gypsy/witch and P was my feline familiar. Miss P had a great time greeting the kids at the door and would wave to them as they left the driveway.

This week I have to work on getting the house in order and prepare for our get away to Halcyon Hot Springs next Monday. My workspace looks like a tornado went through there. I have a craft show coming up that same week, on November 10th at the Laurel Packinghouse https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=133718243387817 so I have to make sure I have everything ready before our trip so I'm not scrambling around the day before the event.

Halloween Prep

It seems that October has just flown by. I still have to make costumes for Penny and myself. Penny is going to be a little mermaid and I am going as her mermaid mommy. We have managed to get most of the decorations up, just have to do the indoor lighting then I think I will call it done. Our party is on Saturday and we have some grocery shopping to do.

I have made some fun Halloween accessories that are now available on my store www.industrialhippie.etsy.com. I especially like the skeleton lady cameo brooches that I made. It can also be worn as a pendant.

Here is a sneak peak at our Halloween house. This is our scary Halloween scene. We are making our own little family tradition to collect a spooky town piece every year. This year we found the train set on sale at Michaels and it was the last one so we grabbed it. It is so much fun to watch.

I had a great day on Saturday at the Busy Women’s Express shop. Thank you to everyone for your support!

Since then, I have been spending my time getting the house back in order. My art supplies were everywhere, along with baby stuff, dishes, laundry etc. It looked like a cyclone hit it. Now everything is back to normal, the mess has moved to my workspace downstairs which is in dire need of attention. At least I can close the door.

Quinoa Pudding

My Mother In-Law introduced us to Quinoa and I love it!! I find it more filling than rice and you can use it in so many different ways.

Sometimes I have it for breakfast

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups water
3/4 cup quinoa
2 cups whole milk
2 ripe bananas
2 tablespoons white sugar
salt to taste
1/2 tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
I added about a teaspoon of cinnamon and a handful of raisins.

Directions

Rinse and drain the quinoa. Bring water and quinoa to a boil in a saucepan over high heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat.
Blend together the milk, bananas, sugar, and salt in the bowl of a blender or food processor until smooth. Pour the milk mixture into the saucepan with the quinoa.
Place the pan over medium heat. Cook and stir until the mixture becomes thick and creamy, 5 to 10 minutes. Remove from the heat. Stir in the butter and vanilla and serve warm.

I took a break from creating yesterday to take the doggie to the beach.

Even though the weather is still beautiful, you can feel fall in the air. The mornings and evenings have cooled down and the air is getting crisper.

I have created some new things lately, I have a craft fair coming up on September 24th at the Busy Women’s Express Shop.

I still have to take some pictures of the new items I have made, I would also like to retake pictures of my older stock so the pictures look a little more pleasing to the eye.

I haven’t updated this thing in a loooong time. In my last post, almost a year ago now, I talked about my pregnancy. I have since then had my baby, her name is Penelope. She has her own blog at http://sweetpeapenelope.wordpress.com/

I also married my Husband on Halloween of 2010.

The whole pregnancy was pretty rough, I was in bed for most of it and didn’t get a chance to do much crafting. I could barely sit up without tossing my cookies. I was prescribed Diclectin and was able to go traveling during the end of my second trimester in September 2010. We went to California to pick up a VW Beetle we bought off of ebay.

We drove it to Vegas to celebrate the Hubby’s birthday.

Then we drove it home to B.C.

Penelope has been keeping me very busy. Just recently we have been able to regulate her sleeping patterns. She takes regular naps and has a set bed time. She may not sleep through the night yet, but it gives me a few hours to myself.

Weekly Update

Last Tuesday, August 24, we had our first ultrasound. It's a girl! We are very happy. We didn't have our minds set on a gender, we would have been happy with a boy as well. Mostly everyone I know has boys though, so it's kind of nice to have a girl. Maybe the next one will be a boy ;)

On Thursday our wonderful roommate took us on a float plane ride. One of the perks of renting to pilots, haha. We flew over Winfield, Vernon & Armstrong. It was a beautiful calm morning.

The rest of the day was not so calm. When we got back home we decided to take Luna for a swim, on our way to the lake a huge windstorm blew in and waves were crashing onto the shore. Luna didn't mind and the boys still went in the water. I stayed on shore and observed the fun furry.

it has been a looong time since I have updated. Backalleyart.ca is no longer. Many things have changed since then. I have moved 3 times, went back to school, got a job, quit a job, I met a wonderful man, got engaged, we have a puppy she is now 9 months old, and we are expecting a baby in January 2011! I am taking the time now to start a new website, I have my etsy store back up with a few items. When the baby gets here I will probably have no time for my creations, we will have to see....

The new website name is industrialhippie.ca I still have to redo the layout and freshen it up a bit. I am slowly adding new items over time.

I added 2 new sections to our website, a necklace gallery listing the necklaces I have made that others are wearing, and a digital art section. Cale & play around in photoshop alot and make some cool stuff.

An Update

What is new? January 30th I had a new tattoo done by Inked Expressions Tattoo, www.inkedexpressionstattoo.com

It looks alot more painful than it actually was. It was a very relaxing experience, but I am a weirdo and have a high pain tolerance. The after effect was the worse part, it was pretty tender for the first couple of days but now it feels great. I am going back in a week or so to have it colored.

I sold my Turtle bracelets from my Etsy store on January 30. I still have yet to hear back from the person who bought them so we can do feed back on eachother.

Cale had to go to Kamloops last weekend for a home trade show. I went along for the ride and was able to check out the downtown area which had a really cool bead store, Bead Connections. Check out their website @ www.beadlady.net

I left the store with a good haul of beads.

I actually went back the next day to get more because they had so much cool stuff. They’re open on Sundays!

We're back from Edmonton and brought a nasty cold/flu bug back with us. My hubby is worse off than I am and had to go to the doc yesterday. He is feeling much better today. Goes to show it doesn't matter how healthy one tries to be, it will still catch you sooner or later. Damn you winter!

On the Road

We're in Edmonton for a few days. Not as cold as I thought it would be, but I guess it has been warmer than normal lately. I managed to take some pictures before I left of some earrings I made out of CAT 5 wire. I have posted them on the web site. Also took some pics of Cale's artwork and a couple of bracelets. In the process of making a spot for those.
